Social Event Guide

Social events are definitely the most hands-off of the bunch. Whether you want to throw an absolute rager, a vegan potluck (in the name of animal liberation), a board-game night, or a wine-night while you watch Tarantino’s entire filmography, we support you (as long as it’s safe and legal). Here you will find a non-comprehensive guide to hosting a social event!

  • Reasons for hosting a social event - At worst, you all have a great time. At best, the iron bonds of friendship forged at the event will result in increased chemistry while tabling and recruiting later on, leading to more pledges, leading to saving lives.
  • Timing - It’s up to you! Generally, we think there is lots of reasoning to justify hosting at least one early on in the semester - bonds forged earlier lead to greater chemistry for more of the semester and could create momentum to get more pledges later on.
  • Mid or late semester is great too; build momentum into pledge week!

  • Remember to be creative when planning, but more importantly, have fun during! Social events should primarily be about relaxing and getting to know your chapter!

Small Social Events: Between 3-6 people. Maybe you could invite all executive board members? Here are some ideas for an event:

  • Watch an EA / OFTW related movie? Okja, Ex Machina, I, Robot, Contagion, or Snowpiercer
  • Board-game night?

Medium Social Events: Between 6-20 people. Maybe invite all your active members and exec?

  • Ideas for event: Lawn games, trivia, speed-friending, bingo or an end-of-semester formal?
